this goes straight to the heart to explore who we really are behind the masks we put on in our daily lives. My wife and I talked about this idea of "putting on a mask" as well a few days ago. We put the the mask of a parent without knowing it. How should we expect our kids to know who we really are if we are not truly ourselves?
Thank you Franco! I wrote about this a while ago - about my daughter only seeing a curated version of me. I hope that through this project I will be able to identify all the masks I have worn and continue to wear - and find ways to peel them off permanently. This dialogue is so important and all the comments are so encouraging and helpful.
This is going to be such a fantastic series. I love the way you put yourself out there, so brave in a world where everybody is so conscious of putting out a curated version of themselves. So looking forward to it.
Thank you Sha! I think in the act of removing the make-up I was trying to say that you cannot maintain ridiculous standards of beauty forever. Eventually cracks will appear in your perfect facade.
This is such a fantastic idea Samira! That you have thought of a year long series is really commendable. I’m looking forward to it.
Thank you Rituparna! I'm excited to see it grow too :)

I'm here for it! Woohoo!
Also, in SE Asia the insane desire to be fair, no-sun-touching-your-skin drives this born and raised Hawaii girl insane. Vitamin D, yo!
Also, I'm so over darker skinned actors pigeonholed into either the villain or comedians.
Also, did I mention I'm here for this new endeavor? xo
Thank you Lani! It's the same in India. Beauty = fairness. And although many women are fighting it, we are a small number.
this looks like an exciting series Samira. Looking forward to it!
Thank you Savvy!
Gurl!!! Eagerly waiting for next!
Coming up on Sunday!
Love the idea and the name - Naqab... looking forward to seeing the rest!
Thank you Awantika!
Fabulous! May all women have the power to peel off their naqabs/masks
Thank you Minaz!

Thank you Aastha! I'm excited too :)
I really love the cracked make up in the video. There is story in the cracked make up as well, I reckon. This is a beautiful series.

All true, and important, Samira. I’m so excited seeing your project!
Thank you! Means a lot to me :)
