Hello and welcome to In-Between Lines.

Here, you will find the musings of a woman growing up and growing old - either in harmony with herself or at odds. I write to witness my lived experiences and make sense of my world. I write because sometimes words are stronger and wiser than conversations. I also write to open up the space for those who have lived similar experiences - perhaps in search of others like me. We are not alone in our struggles, our battles and our victories.

My writing aims to navigate the complex, patriarchal society I grew up in and question the myriad customs and rituals surrounding us as we age.

Here’s a quick guide to navigate my Substack.

In Between Lines is a collection of personal and fictional essays in which I attempt to explore my voice as a writer through stories from my past and present that remain hidden in the space between light and shadow.

Naqab is a photographic exploration of the many masks I wear as an Indian woman. It attempts to unravel and discover what lies beneath, one portrait at a time. Stay with me as I peel back the layers that have dictated my life to discover who I am underneath all the masks I wear.

The project will span a year, with one portrait every week.

People

I write to make sense of my world and to better understand who I am. I write to share the intimate world of ordinary people living extraordinary lives. And in the end I write to find connections in stories that we all live collectively.
